Review: 2 Years with my Decathlon Trail Running Vest

Disclosure: I bought this running vest myself; this review is not sponsored.

What You Need To Know

Model: Evadict 15 Litre/Kiprun 15 Litre

Fit notes: close fitting without being restrictive, 3 adjustable chest straps with clip closure
Best for: any and all trail running, hot weather hikes, travel
Key features: 2L water bladder included, many pockets, compression straps on the back

For me, the real test of any piece of running kit is whether it holds up over time. Not only on a handful of outings, but across years of Scottish weather, long training blocks, mountain miles and everyday trail runs. A running vest is one of those items that needs to quietly get on with the job, no rubbing, no fuss, no surprise failures. After countless hours with my Evadict 15L trail running vest from Decathlon, in every season and on every kind of terrain, I’ve got a clear sense of exactly how it performs and where it stands out.

Please note: the model own is no longer sold under the Evadict brand. This Kiprun 15L vest is the current equivalent and is very similar in design and function.

Why I’ve Used It Religiously for 2 Years

I’ve had this vest for over two years now, and it’s probably the single most-used bit of running kit I own. It’s been through it all: forest trails, boggy Munros, marathons, ultra events, and sweaty post-run cafe stops.

It’s also come with me on international trips. I took it to Canada during two months of hiking and trail running. It came with me to Portugal, too. In hot climates, you don’t need as much hiking kit, this vest is the perfect lightweight dual-purpose packing option.

The best part? It’s still going strong.

Here’s why I love it so much:

  • It’s never rubbed. Not once. I can’t overstate how important this is.
  • The fit is secure – no bouncing, no flapping, no faffing.
  • I’ve washed it countless times and it still looks good. The stitching and zips are as solid as day one.
  • It’s full of different pockets and compartments. Front pockets for soft flasks, my phone and snacks. Back space for hydration bladder, layers, waterproofs, and emergency kit.
  • It’s big enough for ultra race kit lists including full waterproofs, foil blanket, navigation and food.
  • It’s easy to cinch down so it looks much smaller and doesn’t flap about when you don’t need the capacity. This was a big plus for me as I could only afford one vest and needed it to suit any outing.
  • It’s very affordable for this capacity running vest and it came with a 2L hydration bladder included.

Who Running Vests Are Great For

I love this particular vest, but whichever brand or style you prefer, running vests are incredibly versatile. If you’re new to vests, they are really useful for:

  • Runners building up to longer distances who want to try a vest without breaking the bank.
  • Trail walkers and hikers who want to travel light but carry essentials like water, snacks, waterproofs, and a first aid kit.
  • Anyone doing ultras or run-walk challenges, especially if you need to meet kit list requirements without going full expedition mode.
  • People travelling who need multi-purpose kit to cover different activities (especially in hot countries).

The Unexpected MVP

I never expected to love this vest. I thought I’d be too self-conscious to use it, or that I’d outgrow it quickly. But two years in, I’m still reaching for it all the time. Whether it’s a local trail run or a long day in the hills, it’s a piece of kit I trust.

So if you’re swithering the way I was, wondering if you really need a running vest, this is your sign. It might just become your favourite bit of kit too.
